EXECUTIVE AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS
APRIL 14, 2008
The meeting was called to order by
President Paul Roughton at 7 p.m.
PRESENT – Paul Roughton,
Mary Roughton, Kate Wilson, Jimmy Muller, Joan Nolte, Bridge, George Gibson,
Warren Nolte and David Towns.
APOLOGIES - Hubert Poschman.
MINUTES – Minutes of the
April 14th meeting were approved as circulated. Moved by Joan Nolte, 2nd by Kate Wilson. business arising from the minutes.

We have started to collect membership
dues and they will be duly banked. accordingly.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
GREENS – Jamie Bridge
Volunteers have started on the Greens
& Grounds. Jamie expressed he was
happy with the turnout of the volunteers.
GAMES – George Gibson
Club Competitions – There is a good response from Members
signing up.
George reported Tournaments seem to be
very popular in this Club.

19, Aileen Foan & Lesia Gafka will organize a pot luck dinner for bowlers
in Club Mixed Triples.
June 14, Monty Greer will look after “Bring
Your Friends & Family BBQ.
Beef on a bun, with salads & dessert
July 1st- Canada Day – It
was noted that last year was too long, a suggestion was made to have just one
game in the afternoon. Donn Sherry is
to be asked if he would like to be
involved in the planning of Canada Day .
July 5, 1st, 2nd& 3rdyear bowlers
tournament, “Tender Foot”. Diane Ballto
co-ordinate this event.
MEMBERSHIP – Warren Nolte
Warren reported 80 registrations have
been paid. Open House was
verysuccessful, with help from the weather man, 33 people signed up for lessons
to start on Monday April 14th. It
was suggested that Members that are not paid up by May 1st, should
be contacted.
WAYS & MEANS – David Towns
David reported business is proceeding
on schedule.
OLD BUSINESS –
a)
Kitchen conveners are still needed for July & August.
b)
Discussion took place on equipment that is needed or requested for the
kitchen. Coffee Pots, Pitchers with
lids, 4 Slice Toasters, Garbage Can, Dishwasher, Clothes Dryer and
Freezer. It was decided a Freezer and
Clothes Dryer were not needed. Kate Wilson is pricing the above products.

Bridge made a motion we could spend up to $1,500. on supplies, 2ndby
Roughton. Motion passed.
c)
Ladner Inter-Club Tournament July 10th. George Gibson will look after . Jimmy Muller will look after transportation
to and from BC Ferries.
d)
There has been no volunteers for Mentoring.
e)
DVD machine is ready for use.
f) Kate Wilson has volunteered to look after “Marketing”
until we have a permanent volunteer. An advertisement to promote the Nanaimo
Lawn Bowls Club will be placed in the News Bulletin with Donn Sherry & Paul
Roughtons names as contacts. A 1/12th
page advertisement to the cost of
$140.00.
g)
Jamie Bridge is getting a Quote on replacing the Gutters on the Garden
Shed.
h)
Zena Buck & Louise McLeod volunteered to look after the Gardens.
j)
Jimmy Muller is still looking into more suitable Venues to hold the
Short Mats. Storage of the equipment seems to be a problem.
k) Eric Spalding is looking after the photos
for Opening Day held April 13th, 2008
NEW BUSINESS –
a} Mary Roughton will make a donation
of $25.00 to the Cancer Society on
behalf of John Evans who passed away April 8th, 2008. A member who will be sadly missed.
b)
George Gibson proposed we apply to the Senior Games Legacy Fund for financial
help.
c)
It was agreed that we order 120 Lawn Bowlers Handbooks. George Gibson to look after this.
d)
Kate Wilson mentioned and volunteered to look into setting up a Web Site
for Nanaimo Lawn Bowls. David Burns has
offered to work on this with Kate. Kate
suggested we could get a good price by using “Bravenet”, at approximate $100.00
a year.
e)
Suggestions were made to have Sun Screen and Air Fresheners put in the
washrooms. Hubert was to be consulted
in this matter.
f)
A suggestion was made to buy Mugs with our Logo on them, to be used for
Internal Club Tournaments. Tabled till
next months Executive Meeting.
g)
Speaker System – Kate Wilson will look into pricing a Wireless Speaker
System.
h)
It was suggested, as some people have allergies, we have a Poster made
and posted on the window asking people to refrain from smoking and wearing
perfume.

Executive Meeting to be held May 12that our Club House.
