The meeting was called to order by President Paul Roughton at 7 p.m.
PRESENT – Paul Roughton, Kate Wilson, Mary Roughton, Joan Nolte, George Gibson, Warren Nolte
and David Towns.
APOLOGIES – Jimmy Muller, Jamie Bridge and Hubert Poschmann.
MINUTES – Minutes of the July 8th meeting were approved as circulated.
Moved by Kate, 2nd by David.
No business arising from the minutes.
TREASURERS REPORT – Mary Roughton, July 31, 2008

TOTAL $ 33,141.39
1. GIC matured on 25th July, now re-invested for a further 18 month term.

Warren has been requested to send unused membership cards back and submit report.
WAYS & MEANS – David Towns
- David reported Canaccord Capital Corp donated $300. plus a basket of goodies and 2 plaques for their Tournament.
OLD
BUSINESS:
1) The Bowls Shed has been cleaned up and looks much better, thanks to some of our members.
The question of installing more shelves is still pending.
NEW
BUSINESS:
1) Linda Schultz has been appointed as a new member to our Board ito. our Constitution 26(1)
(To take over from Secretary when Joan resigns end of September).
2) Donation of set of used Henselite size 4 bowls by Bob Smith for Club use
(Cleaned and repainted by Jimmy Muller).,
3) Mona Haddad has requested she would like to have the greens for her regular Mixed Draw on Thursday morning, to be rescheduled for a full day on Thursday Sept. 11th. Request was granted.
4) Kate reported the ice-cream money from the freezer had been stolen. It was suggested the money should now be kept with the bar money. Pres. Paul and Kate will look into how to handle it.
5) George reported that it was brought to his attention that the window in the kitchen had been left open for the third time. Possibly a sign should be put up in the kitchen as a reminder,.
6) Rick Quibell was the repeat winner of the Men’s Singles on Sunday August 17th , being that he was also the North Island winner from last year, he would automatically get invited to Parksville. There by the next runner up Monty Grier, would be eligible to represent our Club, but he is unable to do so. It was suggested that the next highest qualifiers, Patrick McGovern and Keith McMann should play off to see who would represent the Nanaimo Club.
7) Julie Hustwick will be asked to put up a sign informing members of the Short Mats starting in October at the Costin Hall in Lantzville.

8) George made a request to replace the orange “Set Markers” used for tournaments, with a different color. George will look after this.
9) Linda Shultz reported that she and Barry would like to donate a trophy on behalf of their company. Discussion took place on where a trophy could be used. Pres. Paul suggested a trophy for the Men’s Novices, as the present one used has no inscription that it is that event. Tabled till the next meeting.
10) Bob Smith has donated his bowls to the Club. A letter of thanks will be sent.
11) Pres. Paul reported Donn Sherry has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for his involvement with La Cross. A card of congratulations will be sent.
12) Joan brought up the question as to whether we should send a letter to new members welcoming them to the Club and informing them of the AGM meeting to be held in December and to also inform them of the Short Mat activities during the winter months. This was tabled to the next meeting.
13) David will look into contacting the Curling Rink regarding the booking of the upstairs room for the AGM meeting in December and the price of supplying the dinner to follow.
Next meeting to be held September 15 at 7 p.m. at the Lawn Bowling Club House.
