COMMITTEE REPORTS :
WAYS & MEANS : David Towns reported the Sponsors had been canvassed and he expected a good response.
GREENS REPORT : Jamie Bridge reported it has been a cold wet winter and the greens are in poor condition. We will have a slow start. The greens have had moss treatment and have been fertilized. Once again we would appreciate members volunteering to work. Jamie reported, thanks to Members who so willingly donated their time to work on the Greens and Grounds, allowed the Club to save the Contract Fees for doing this work. Jamie expressed a sincere thanks to all Members who have come out to work in the past. This has allowed the Club to buy some of the new equipment that was needed.
Jamie suggested the Mats would be needed at times, as some members have difficulty in their delivery and sometimes loft their bowls, this can damage the greens.
A suggestion was raised about buying a Greens Iron, Jamie commented it would cost about $7,000. and we would have little space to store it, he did not feel it would be very beneficial. Possibly we could borrow one some time and see how it worked.
Zena Buck and Louise McLeod have volunteered to look after the gardens.
GAMES : George Gibson -Report read and submitted for file.
George circulated the Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club Calendar for 2008.
George thanked all the members who have given their time in helping him set up the tournaments.
George reported it has been agreed upon that while bowling in Club Competitions two members could share bowling. (eg) One person bowl two games and the second person one game. Each player would have to be from the same rated position. This will allow more people to compete if they felt they cannot bowl 3 games in a row.
The 2007 “Roster” is not current anymore. George showed the new booklet which will now be used and is available only to those going into Competitions, as there is limited supply.
Jeff Dixon made a suggestion we alternate raking ends instead of the way it has been done in the past. Discussion and left pending. It was generally felt that this was a good idea.
President Paul suggested he would like to see a competition set up with the Duncan Club.
COACHING : Due to the failing health of John Evans, John and wife Maureen will not be Coaching this year, therefore we will need replacements. Open House will be held April 12 & 19th. Please bring your guests and tutor them around, it is found to be more effective this way.
