MINUTES OF THE NANAIMO LAWN BOWLING CLUB

EXECUTIVE AND BOARD DIRECTORS

FEBRUARY  11th,  2008

The meeting was called to order by President Paul Roughton at 7 p.m.

PRESENT    Paul Roughton, Mary Roughton, Kate Wilson, Joan Nolte, Warren Nolte, Jamie Bridge, George Gibson, David Towns

APOLOGIES Jimmy Muller and Hubert Poschmann.

Minutes of the January 14th, 2008 were approved as circulated.  Moved by Kate Wilson and seconded by Mary Roughton.  Passed.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES:

No business arising from the minutes.

TRESURERS REPORT:

Mary Roughton circulated the Financial Statement showing all transactions as of January 31st, 2008

            General Account            $ 4,568.33

            Gaming Account            $      90.45

            GIC                              $17,731.60

            TOTAL                                    $22,390.38

Paid $1,629.00 to Nanaimo Curling Club, drawn from account on 15th of January, 2008 for AGM held December 4th, 2007.  Moved by David Towns and seconded by Kate Wilson that this report be adopted as circulated.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

Correspondence – Statement for rental at Bowen Park Senior Centre for the Executive meetings.  Treasurer Mary Roughton will look after paying this bill.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

GREENS – Jamie Bridge

a) Reported the greens had been cut and treated.  The greens had been flooded due to the blockage of the drain ways by the pile up of snow on the parking lot.

b) A schedule of volunteers would have to be made up for working on the greens.

c) Courtney may be buying the Sander that we have for sale.

 

d) We will have to look into volunteers for attending the flower gardens, and the installation of an irrigation system for the flower boxes.

e)  Jamie passed around the impressive add he had constructed for the newspaper, informing possible new members of our Lawn Bowls Club.

f) Estimated budget for the Greens would be approximately $5,000.00 for 2008.

GAMES – George Gibson

a) Presented a draft of a proposed schedule for May bowling.

A motion, moved by Paul Roughton and seconded by Dave Towns that Tag time would be 6:45 p.m. and start time 7:00 p.m.  Carried.

b) George also presented a Games Report as proposed by the Games committee for 2008.  This report will be circulated as an attachment.

c) Bill Roos volunteered to look after the Super League.

d)  Zone Competitions Mary Roughton, Aileen Foan and George Gibson.

e)  Presidents Cup   Hosted by Powell River.  May 22.

 

CANTEEN & HOUSE -  Hubert Poschmann  (Absent)

President Paul suggested the Bar should always be manned by designated volunteer staff and no self service.

MEMBERSHIP – Warren Nolte

Warren presented a proposed format for the Membership List with all players being alphabetically listed with a section for Emergency contact.  This portion of the list to be posted in the Club House.  Also presented was a list of questions to be asked by the phoning committee when contacting last years members if they will be joining us again.

This was approved by the Executive.  Moved by Warren Nolte, seconded by Joan Nolte

WAYS & MEANS – David Towns

David is preparing to canvass sponsors and is awaiting a list of Events from President Paul.

April 5, 2008  - North Island semi annual meeting at Qualicum 11 a.m.

April 12, 2008 Bowls BC Semi AGM George Gibson who is a North Island Director

will be attending.  A representative from our Club is also required, to be decided later.

BUDGET MEETING Report as circulated. 

Budget totals -             Income              $34,600.

                                    Expenses            $37,450.

Dues are to be the same as last year. Moved by David Towns, seconded by Kate Wilson   

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Who has the #1 DVD.  It was suggested that Donn Sherry probably has it. President Paul has the  #2  DVD.

LAST CALL! 2nd Notice to all Clubs - 50% Funding for GO LAWN BOWL banners!  Bowls BC has agreed to jump start the bannering program by offering 50% funding for the first 25 banners ordered by members of Club.Bowls BC can have them printed in quantity for only about $125. each in a 2' x 7' size. Therefore order now and get them for 50% off this already very low price. A photo of the banner was forwarded earlier. Moved by Warren Nolte, seconded by David Towns that we buy one of these Banners.

Jamie Bridge volunteered to bring a DVD player to the Club so that we may view the Coaching & Etiquette DVDپfs on Bowling.

Next meeting – Monday March 17th, 2008, 7 p.m. at the Bowen Senior Centre.

Moved by Kate Wilson seconded by Jamie Bridge that the meeting be adjourned.
